One of our talented user experience and user interface designers, Crystal Douglas, had the opportunity to teach students last week. She guest lectured for an Experience Design course at VCU on the topic of Design Thinking.

Design Thinking is a methodology that centers conceptualization around the end-user, allowing the designer to accurately marry needs to solutions. It is a precursor to user experience design (UX) and user interface design (UI), the crafts that Crystal practices at COLAB.

Crystal discussed the benefits of adopting Design Thinking and walked her students through the process. To solidify the concept, she applied theory to a practical example of how the methodology is used in web design. This was undoubtedly a valuable perspective for students considering a profession in web, user experience, or user interface design. We’re very proud of Crystal and her accomplishments!

As a Richmond-based digital agency with a focus on the web, we love opportunities to give back to the web community. It is particularly rewarding to act as a resource for the next generation of creative professionals. We hope to continue our support of the local education community with team contributions like Crystal’s.
