Thalhimer is the largest commercial real estate broker in the Central Virginia area and has been at the forefront of the commercial real estate industry since the early 20th century. From leasing space in the first chain stores and regional shopping centers to leasing office space in the first high rise office buildings and marketing property in the first suburban office and industrial parks, Thalhimer has earned and maintained its role as an industry leader.
While history is important, Thalhimer is always looking to the future, driven by a continuing investment in technology and tools to ensure top-notch service.
In 2015, both Thalhimer and Cushman & Wakefield, with whom they have an alliance, updated their brand standards. Thalhimer believed that this was an excellent opportunity to freshen the look and feel of Thalhimer.com and to address some usability issues.
As such, Thalhimer, based on the success of COLAB’s Apto integration with Thalhimer.com, approached us about redesigning, the existing website, including a significant redesign of the homepage to improve usability.
The clear challenge was working with a Drupal 7 site we did not build and on an aggressive timeline to align with the new brand launch. We had assumed support and maintenance work on the site several months before, so we weren’t completely unfamiliar with it, but reskinning the entire site is not a job we take lightly.
The first thing we did was dive into the site’s analytics and identify opportunities and bottlenecks, and made recommendations for, and gained alignment with, Nick Schimick, Director of Marketing.
Based on the data we saw, one of our recommendations was to consolidate and simplify multiple calls to action down to two simple ones: Have Property? and Need Property?
We also saw an argument in the analytics to more clearly and effectively outline the footprint (eight markets and two states) describe the services, and present a compelling design.
Aesthetically, Thahimer wanted to communicate their alliance with Cushman & Wakefield, but of course retain their own well known identity. To do this, we took cues from C&W’s new brand standards, and used design elements such as angles and gradients to give a subtle nod to the Cushman & Wakefield brand, but maintained the Thalhimer palette, branding, and typography, as well as on-trend best practices such as “flat” design.
And of course, it had to perform and look pixel-perfect across devices, and be ready to launch on a hard deadline to coincide with the rest of Thalhimer’s rebranding rollout, including new property signage, digital display ads, and other marketing materials.
The Thalhimer team was thrilled with the new design and the usability recommendations.
The new Thalhimer.com is in line with current Thalhimer branding and modern design trends. This Drupal site integrates with Apto and is not only easier to navigate but also is easier to manage.
This site elevates Thalhimer’s digital presence to be on par with their offline reputation.
