COLAB is a digital empowerment agency whose mission is to create digital platforms and processes that empower marketing leaders. We are a team of strategists, designers, developers, software engineers, quality assurance analysts, and project managers who collaborate day in and day out to elevate how our clients use digital within their organizations. 

We are looking for a Web Development Lead to lead and manage our team of web developers, who work on frontend, theming, and site building. In addition to supporting the skill development and career growth of the team, this role will be responsible for overseeing projects from conception to implementation while providing guidance on technical issues along the way. The Web Development Lead will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and work alongside other practice leads to produce the best solutions for COLAB’s clients, encourage collaboration across the company, and help guide and grow the teams underneath them. A Day in the Life

As a Web Development Lead at COLAB, you can expect to be doing these types of activities on a regular basis:

Lead web development decision making

  • Lead and approve front end technology
  • Guide CMS implementation
  • Determine appropriate technology solutions
  • Stay up to date with industry developments and trends
  • Experiment and create proofs of concept when necessary 
  • Set the standard for front end development and CMS
  • Enforce technology best practices
  • Develop coding standards, methodology and repeatable processes

Manage the web development team

  • Oversee and approve the front end development work
  • Ensuring code is high quality
  • Review solutions against project constraints
  • Provide direction to team members to overcome project issues
  • Help create plans and solutions for technical challenges
  • Mentor and coach team members on technical as well as interpersonal and communication skills
  • Facilitate quarterly check ins and annual development discussions for your direct reports, helping to create a meaningful career path for them

Collaborate with other practices

  • Collaborate with strategy, design, software engineering, and quality assurance teams
  • Review project artifacts along the way
  • Help plan overall web development approach for website and web application projects 
  • Advise traffic manager on appropriate staffing based on skillset
  • Collaborate with COO to ensure operational efficiency for web development work
  • Continually refine and improve web development processes and collaboration across teams

About You

Here are some qualities that should ring true for you as a strong candidate for the Web Development Lead role at COLAB:

  • You are an expert in WordPress and/or Drupal
  • You have a deep understanding of front end development and content management, and how to tie the two together
  • You have an understanding of UX and visual design concepts to provide perspective on front end technologies and their overall impact on the solution

  • You are a planner and a problem solver by nature with strong attention to technical detail
  • You have a balanced understanding of developing the best technology approach given project constraints and can advocate for decisions that balance priorities of COLAB, clients, and constraints
  • You easily foster good team relationships by handling a multitude of people/personalities with grace and are able to provide constructive feedback effectively
  • You can encourage and guide debate, teasing out differing perspectives and gaining buy-in for the final solution
  • You can manage and delegate firmly by articulating the goals, requirements, and measurements of success
  • You are innately curious, a forever learner, and enjoy learning about and applying new technologies
  • You have 3+ years of leading and managing a development teams in the creation of websites and web applications
  • You have 8+ years of experience developing front end code for websites and web applications with expertise in HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and JS frameworks (React.js or Vue.js)
